On the eve of the Chinese New Year, soul-stirring songs and heartfelt melodies have captivated Chinese audiences as U.S.-based One Voice Children’s Choir toured China’s major cities for the second time from December 27 to January 13 and interacted with local young people. In this edition of The Hub, Wang Guan talks to Masa Fukuda, Tanner DeWaal, and Michelle Boothe, the artistic and managerial brains behind the choir, to discuss how this unique connection has left a lasting impression on them. The choir’s performance of a Chinese song at Beijing’s Temple of Heaven was a highlight that took China’s social media by storm. It was intended as a gesture of respect and appreciation for the country’s culture and history. "There’s so many amazing things happening in China," notes Tanner, as he deplores that too often U.S. media make negative reports and "sensationalize" news about China.
