Former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney says there are “real implications” to Donald Trump’s swearing-in today as practical changes have already started to take shape.

Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, declaring in his inauguration speech to sign a series of executive orders, speaking on issues such as energy, gender and the failed attempt on his life.

“Things have already started to change,” Mr Mulvaney told Sky News Australia.

“As you and I have started talking now, the app on people’s phones from the federal government on how to come into the country illegally … came down just a few minutes after noon.

“Since then, several of the border crossings with Mexico along our southern border have closed.”
