Housing Minister Industry Association Managing Director Jocelyn Martin said Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s financial incentive to assist apprentices in training is “really welcomed”.

The Albanese government is pledging government funding in a bid to retain tradespeople in the residential construction sector.

Apprentices will be offered a staggered payment of up to $10,000 as an incentive to complete their trade.

Ms Martin said one of the “pain points” for industry members is “lack of access to skilled labour.”

“Right now in order to build the homes that we need, we need an additional 83,000 new trades into the industry,” she told Sky News Australia.
